My Favourite Game

Studies are the most essential aspect in a student’s life. But ask any student what he or she enjoys the most and they will reply, ‘Game time’! Playing games or a sport has many advantages. Whether indoor or outdoor, games increase our mental and physical toughness, sharpen our brains, develop team spirit and give us a great sense of achievement.

My favourite game is the game that everyone in our country loves – cricket. I have always loved his game as it is very entertaining and easy to learn. The game can be played in a ground, on a street, in an open field or even on a terrace. Because it is so flexible, anyone can play this game anywhere. One does not need any expensive gear to play this game. A bat and a ball are enough to get the game started. It is also a wonderful way to spend time with friends and family.

Our school also helps those who are interested in this game by providing excellent coaching facilities. Everyday, for one hour, I practice with my friends under a very able coach who teaches us the nuances of bowling, batting and fielding. I especially love batting as my favourite sportsman is Sachin Tendulkar. The one hour I spend in my cricket classes is a very precious time for me as I get to spend time with my friends who share the same passion for cricket like I do.

Our school encourages us to participate in local and intercity cricket events. This gives us an opportunity to hone our skills and also imbibe a healthy competitive spirit. Because cricket is a team game, one does not think of individual loss or gain. We learn to play together and celebrate the success of each other. This in turn makes us less selfish and teaches us the importance of sportsmanship.

It is important for every students to take an interest in a game or a sport. As they say, ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. Therefore, whether it is cricket or tennis or chess, it is essential that everyone indulges in games that will enrich their lives both physically and mentally.
