Essay on If I Had a Magic Wand

If I Had a Magic Wand

“And with the stroke of the magic wand, the sleeping city awoke from its deep slumber.” We have all read such fairy tales in our early childhood. On growing up we realise how fascinated we were with those stories that were only fantasies.

Yet, if there was indeed such a wonderful magic wand, and, what if I became the lucky possessor of it? Ah! It is difficult indeed to predict what I would do at that moment. I would do innumerable things, whatever I wished to change with my magic wand. It is definitely not possible to write about everything that I would like to do, so I want to mention just a few of them.

The very first thing that I would do would be to fulfill my own as well as my parents’ desires. Had I a wand, I would take full advantage of that because it would be my first and last chance to do something great. I possess no intention of doing anything harmful so that someday I have to pay for it.

The first thing I would do is take care of my family’s health with the help of magic. Health is of utmost importance, and if health is lost, much is lost. No peaceful life can be led without possessing good health. Next, I would pay attention to my passion for travelling.

I have always cherished the desire to travel around the world. So, with my magic wand, I would create a machine that would enable me to travel to different places and at different time periods if I so desired. It would take me to the past – millions and millions of years back, at the first stage of life when my favourite dinosaurs, tyrannosaurs, stegosaurs and archaeopteryx existed.

Not only this world, I would also want to explore the cosmos, the stars, the planets and the constellations, with the help of my machine. I would also be fascinated to have a look at the future, some years ahead of us. Next, I would like the magic wand to enable me to understand every foreign language so that I face no difficulty wherever I go.

Being a bit mischievous, I would not refrain myself from playing some occasional pranks on my friends with the wave of my wand. When enough fun has been made and enough damage has been done, I would like to set things right again. My next step would be to turn my attention towards my fellow creatures. To make the world a better place to live in, I would take the help of the magic wand.

I would feed the hungry and clad the poor and eradicate poverty from the face of the earth and make every person literate. The quagmire of poverty and illiteracy compels a person to stoop low and make him degenerated and degraded. Most importantly, with my magic wand I would put an end to jealousy. Only calmness, happiness, love and prosperity would reign.

There must be no war between countries, no violence but prosperous and joyous life everywhere. Another very important thing that I would like to do is to eradicate all diseases from the earth. Do we not all want some magic in our lives? But I know my wishes will remain only a dream because it is absurd to think of getting a magic wand in reality.

As Alice in Wonderland puts it, “You know what the issue is with the world? Everyone wants some magical solution to their problem and everyone refuses to believe in magic.”
